Protecting Childhood from Digital Distraction
We advocate for delaying social media and smartphone use until children are ready. We provide research-backed strategies for setting age-appropriate digital boundaries that align with your family’s values.
Our Foundational Pillars
We believe that empowered parents and strong community support are the keys to cultivating mindful digital habits and protecting developmental milestones
- Childhood should be protected.
- Technology should serve us, not control us.
About Us
Empowering Families for Digital Well-being
The Digital Balance Project was co-founded by Alexis Rod, APRN, and Meghan Robinson, PT DPT, OMT. As healthcare professionals and mothers, our mission is to equip families and communities to foster healthy digital habits by delaying social media exposure until children are developmentally ready. We are committed to providing clear, research-backed information that allows families to make informed choices aligned with their values.
“When families come together to share experiences and support one another, they create a culture of intentional and healthy digital use.”
Education Empowers Parents
We offer signature talks and workshops that provide a clear understanding of the developmental risks associated with social media and screen overuse
Community & Support
We strengthen families by creating a network of support, emphasizing that mindful digital habits start with parent leadership and modeling thoughtful technology use.
The Problem We Are Trying To Solve
The Digital Balance Gap
Digital devices, while useful, expose children to major developmental risks before they are ready. Our mission is urgent: delaying social media exposure until children are developmentally ready is a critical step in cultivating healthy digital habits
When children are exposed too soon, they are vulnerable to serious issues, including digital addiction tendencies, cyberbullying, and negative body image.
- Kids deserve time to develop socially, emotionally, and cognitively before digital distraction takes hold
- Research suggests delaying smartphone use until at least 8th grade and social media until at least 16 years old.
“Technology should enhance our lives, not replace real-world connections or disrupt healthy development.”
